Well coming into to the home stretch on this one.I still need to finish sand and tweak a few areas as well as add a few more details in.I have hand carved in all the lines and am trying to make sure they are as straight as possible. Here is where I'm at.

A few project updates

I have been going back and forth bewteen 3 major projects, the life size Mangalore bust, the McQuarrie concept Boba Fett helmet version2 and the life size Wampa head.
The Mangalor bust is coming along and Im basically done with bulking in the main features. Now Im refining the details and texturing the skin.

Next up is the McQuarrie Concept Fett helmet Version 2.I spent awhile last night doing some more reshaping.I have also started to add in details. I made the cheek panel with recessed details and started the inner range finder detail.I also cut out the forehead triangle.

Now on to the Wampa. I got some more fur and placed it on top of what I had already temp. pinned in place.I think its about where it needs to be size and shape wise.It will get more width added to it once I sculpt the horns on.I still need to add more clay to it here and there, sculpt the horns and detail the nose and around the eyes. Then make a mold and cast one then glue on the fur and weather it.And of course have to sculpt the teeth and mouth insert for when its done.

The Winston Effect

I recently bought the book called "The Winston Effect" which basically follows Stan Wintsons works from the early days to present. This book was about $40.00 shipped and was worth every penny. I highly recommend buying this book to anyone that has any interest in special effects, movie make up etc. It is full color with alot of never before seen behind the scenes stuff including concept art etc.
I bought mine through amazon.com

Wampa Progress

Well Im finding this a lot more difficult than I though it would be.trying to sculpt a creatures who is covered in hair afterward is challenging. Its really hard to determine the facial structures under all that hair.
I have scoured the net hoping to find pics of the Wampa being made and hoping a pic exists of the Wampa before hair was added.
The person commissioning me to do this isn't real picky and doesn't care if it looks exact he just wants it more realistic than the one he has now.I on the other hand am picky and I know i wont hit it spot on but Id like to get it close. Here is his,It was done purposely as more a of a cartoon mascot type head.

Anyway I have started the sculpt and am now just trying to figure out the basic shape under all that hair.So what im doing is getting it roughed out and then pinning hair in place to so of give me a idea of what to change. Here is a pic of how it is now I ran out of fur so he is bald.

Here is a crude and quick paintworks mock up of the above picture.Although simplistic the paintworks mock up looks like Im heading in the right direction. All I did was open the pic in paint works and paint over the sculpt adding a little width to the head and the horns teeth etc.

This is still early I will sculpt a mouth insert later with teeth and tongue,i also need to sculpt the horns for the side of the head.Of course once the hair is glued down it will show the under facial structure a little better.

He looks like a bald overweight wookie at this point or this guy from Rudolph.

Ralph McQuarrie Concept Fett helmet Version 2

So a bout 2 years ago I took on the task of creating a  real world wearable Boba Fett helmet based on a concept drawing by Ralph McQuarrie. It came out really well.I as usual picked the more obscure version of the concept Fetts instead of doing the more recognized version. This one doesnt appear to be much different than the helmet used in the movie other than color. But upon closer inspection it does have a slightly different shape as well as tons of different details.
I was asked by quite a few people who liked my first version if i was going to do the second version.I did start on it it awhile back but until now had now done anymore work to it.Here is the version im doing.along with some work in progressvideos and pics.

I know it hard to tell but I have done extensive work to the helmet.I have re worked the mandibles and reshaped the back of the helmet. I have a lot more work to do.All the details need to be added and the dome needs to be reshaped.

Test cast gets Rex treatment

I decided to do the test cast of the clone I did as Rex.one reason being Rex is more popular and another he doesnt have the flat top hair like a lot of clones do.
Its still not done got to tweak the hair line a little bit but its looking pretty good. I also repainted it with a darker skin tone than in the previous post.I think it looks better darker. Also added the 5 o'clock shadow.

New project looming WAMPA!

I just got a commission to a do a life size Wampa head for a someone.I will be going for a more realistic version like seen in the special edition Empire strikes back movie,vs the more puppet looking one used in the original.
Below is pic of a replica of the puppet most remember from the original, below that is shots of the more realistic looking costume for the special edition version.

Clone Bust update FINISHED!

So I have finally finished the clone sculpt and molded it.I did a test cast as well and it came out really well.I didnt have enough resin to do the whole thing including shoulders so I casted as much as I could with what i had for resin.I have also started painting the test cast. Its not done needs be shaded a little more and I may even go with a little darker skin tone.Plus Im going to add some 5 O'clock shadow I'm going for Rex on this test cast.I will also be sculpting the generic flat top hair cut that can be added on if people want it.
